Litmus paper is a strip of paper, which is dipped into a substance to determine if it is an acid or base. There are two types of litmus paper. One is red litmus paper and the other is blue litmus paper.

- Bases turn red litmus paper blue
- Acids keeps red litmus paper red (no change)
- Neutral substances keeps red litmus paper red (no change)
In blue litmus paper…
- Bases keep blue litmus paper blue (no change)
- Acids turn blue litmus paper red
- Neutral substances keeps blue litmus paper blue (no change)
