Universal Indicator
Universal indicator is a mixture of several different indicators. Unlike other indicators like litmus paper, universal indicator shows exactly how strongly acidic or basic a solution is. Universal indicator is measured using the pH scale, as explained previously.
Once you dip your universal indicator strip into the solution, it is compared to a color key. Each color represents a number on the pH scale. Remember ROYGBIV? Well, that comes into play here. If you test a pH strip and get red, orange, or yellow, the solution is acidic. If you test a pH strip and get blue, indigo, or violet, the solution is basic.
